The Body's Need For Water
Water - The Bodies Most Overlooked Essential Component

You are now very aware that my interests are for your total welfare. Thus, it is necessary that we devote a little time to understanding perhaps the most important element we take into our bodies, WATER. It is the most essential element required for the maintenance of life and good health. Our goal is to provide a basic understanding of the relationship of water to your body, and various aspects of water itself, which we believe you should be aware. The following represents the basic knowledge every person interested in maintaining good health should indelibly remember.

  1. Our bodies are made up of 80% water and 20% solid matter.
  2. It is estimated that more than 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated; chances are you are one of them.
  3. An abundance of water in our diets is essential for continuing good health.
  4. Every function within the body is dependent upon an adequate supply of water - at least 64 ounces
    per day, but more if:
    a) Caffeinated beverages are ingested
    b) Alcoholic beverages are consumed
    c) While Exercising
    d) While Performing physical labor
  5. Soft drinks, sodas, and diet sodas have become a plague upon our society; in 1994 it was reported that 49.1 gallons of soda was consumed per capita during the year. Only 5.5% of the consumed drinks are caffeine free diet soda.
    a) Sodas and cola's do not compensate for the requirement for water, they are not equivalent.
    b) Diet sodas are responsible for continuous weight gain, even from moderate consumption.
    c) Research has shown that the artificial sweeteners induce a response of "hunger" from the brain leading to over eating, and thus weight gain.
  6. Dehydration can manifest itself slowly over a long period of time, if you feel thirsty - you are already dehydrated! Thirst and hunger can be confused. Often when a person feels hungry their body, in fact, needs water; it is thirst, not the desire for food that causes the "need to eat" sensation.
  7. It has been documented by F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. that a number of ailments, even "diseases" can be directly linked to dehydration, the lack of water. Significantly, water can also provide the cure, at times superior to medication. We reference his book "Your body's many cries for water" for detailed studies and information. Of the health problems directly related to the lack of water and which can be helped with proper hydration are:
    a) Headaches
    b) Stress
    c) Kidney problems
    d) High Blood Pressure
    e) Hypertension
    f) Cholesterol
    g) Ulcers
    h) Drinking your 8 glasses of water a day decreases the risk of colon cancer 45%, reduces the risk of breast cancer an incredible 79%, and makes one 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
  8. Don't forget that 80% of the body should be made up of water. Water is an essential nutrient by itself and can also be a supply source for other nutrients. Water is necessary to eliminate toxins from the body as waste products, to lubricate the joints preventing damage from arthritis, and to rehydrate the muscle tissue. Water also plays a very important role in keeping the body cool and comfortable. Remember most people substantially under consume.
  9. Dehydration leading to a 2% loss of body weight may affect mental ability and performance. A loss of 10% may cause extreme weakness and heatstroke.
  10. To prevent dehydration, drink water throughout the day. This is where the Innova Pure Water® personal water filter bottle provides water which is safer, clean and fresh tasting to be available whenever, and wherever you may be.

Perhaps, suffice to say, that your health begins with the quantity and quality of water you drink. As all of us know, we have been told for years of the importance of drinking a minimum of 64 ounces of water per day by the medical not community. What we were not aware of was the relationship to dehydration, minimal water intake, and the related large number of health problems. Much of this information can be found in the referenced 180 page book.

However, there is still another aspect of which you should be aware; that is the quality of the water we drink. Most people recognize two sources; the tap, or bottled water. A large number of people rightly question the quality of their tap water, most dislike the taste of Chlorine, or the foreign taste and odors that are present at various times of the year. Thus, we approach the second, and perhaps the more complex issue of water; quality. Generally speaking, I must say that the quantity of water ingested is of the utmost importance. To improve the quality is infinitely easier and more economical than buying and lugging bottled water. After all most bottled waters are nothing more than filtered tap water; some well processed, others questionable. We have all read the many newspaper and magazine reports about the nature and quality of bottled water. There has been a lack of regulation within the bottled water industry, relying upon "self" regulation.

So what are your alternatives? Essentially three; Carbon composite filtration or Carbon composite filtration combined with sub-micron membrane ….or both plus a disinfectant for virus - a chlorine product preferred.

Let me explain; if your water is suspect of containing biological contaminants such as Cryptosporidium or Giardia Lamblia, as well as nitrates or arsenic contamination we suggest you consider a reverse osmosis system be installed in your home. Use a combination Innova carbon composite / sub-micron filter away from home which will handle all the needs, including protozoa and bacteria, excluding the rare arsenic and nitrate issues. If traveling internationally it is well to use a chlorine derivative in soluble tablet form to add to the water to kill the virus that could be present. The carbon filter removes the chlorine residual after treatment. For the normal treatment of tap water to remove the chlorine, lead / mercury heavy metals, and bad taste and odor an Innova standard personal water filter bottle is the ticket. This product is sold under the Sawyer Products Brand, the Culliganâ Brand, as well as the Innovaâ Brands, which includes Waterwayâ

On the other hand, if your water supply is free of the above contaminants then we recommend the use of our exceptionally efficient and very economical portable water filtration bottle. You will find the Innova or Sawyer Productsâ portable water filtration bottle to be your best friend providing clean, fresh tasting water during every aspect of your daily life. Wherever, you may have taken bottled water with you before, you will forevermore have the Innova® or Sawyer Products,â portable water filtration bottle with you now. It reduces your costs from dollars a bottle to literally pennies a bottle. As important, you no longer need a store to replenish your water supply…just a water tap from which you can refill your portable bottled water filtration system. This bottle, with a replaceable filter, is incorporated within a high quality Sport Type Bottle. The filter reduces the principal contaminants from tap water, namely Chlorine, Lead, Mercury, Taste and Odor by as much as 97% - 87% .

As long as biological contaminants, nitrates, and arsenic are not present in your water there are significant health advantages to using the highly efficient Innovaâ or Sawyer Productsâ portable bottled water filtration system at home as well as throughout your day when traveling, at work, or at play. When the level of contamination does not require all elements present to be removed, then the portable system removes the potentially harmful Chlorine, Mercury and Lead while leaving in the very healthful trace elements such as Selenium, as well as the more plentiful Calcium and Magnesium. It has been estimated that we receive 24% of our body's daily requirements of Calcium and 3% of Magnesium requirement from our normal drinking water .

Until recently water from our municipal systems was thought to be pure and without contamination. As we learned previously, water is known scientifically as nature's universal solvent, for its ability to dissolve and acquire a wide array of not only minerals but contaminants as well. From the start of the 19th century through three quarters of the 20th century biological contamination of water was the major, if not the only concern of municipalities. The answer to water born pathogenic bacteria and virus was to chlorinate municipal water supplies. What was not recognized then, and has only been relatively recently recognized, and extensively documented, is that the Chlorine added to "purify" water by eliminating bacterial and viral contamination was itself a substance that represents a health hazard. Recent studies by both governmental and independent health organizations have found that chlorine may be a major cause of cancers of the digestive tract as well as a major contributor to vascular and heart disease.

Concerning the toxic heavy metals, references indicate that the water we drink contributes 29% of the Mercury we ingest, and as much as 57% of man's intake of lead . Lead enters the water supply from natural sources, but also from lead water distribution pipes used for years in major cities, from the solder joints in copper water tubing found in the home, and from brass sink fixtures. Brass is a compound made from Lead and Tin, and the fixtures manufactured prior to about 1995, in many instances, were found to impart lead contamination into the water delivered through the fixture or faucet. Similarly, many of the older water mains were cement containing asbestos. Asbestos is removed by the Innova sub-micron filter further elevating the margin of safety.

That our ground and surface water supplies have become contaminated with a myriad of natural occurring elements, both healthful as well as toxic, made more hazardous with the occurrence of acid rain must also be noted. We all must also realize that that availability of potable water is falling, and regardless of the environmental actions now finally being taken, we will never again be certain that the water we drink is pure and contaminant free. Thus, it has become each individual's responsibility to treat his or her own water "at the point of use". The filter in the Innova® or Sawyer Products Personal Portable Filter Bottle has been awarded two U.S. Patents, No. 5,609,759 and No. 6,165,362 with still a third patent issued in the Spring of 2001; additional domestic and foreign patents are pending. The Innova sub-micron and carbon composite filters are the most efficient filters of their kind for the removal of Chlorine, Mercury, and Lead as well as protozoa cysts and bacteria at a flow rate of 10 ml/sec. over their useful life. Innova Pure Water, Inc. is the developer and pioneer in portable water filtration holding in excess of forty patents in the water treatment field.
